Entf�hrt - Bis du mich liebst von der Autorin Mila Olsen, erz�hlt eine au�ergew�hnliche Liebesgeschichte, die mit einer Entf�hrung anf�ngt, spannend und zur Liebe w�chst.

Die 16-j�hrige Louisa nach einem Streit mit ihrem Bruder wird auf einem Campingplatz in Kalifornien von einem gutaussenden jungen Mann entf�hrt. In der Wildnis Kanadas wird sie festgehalten. Es beginnt eine Zeit der Angst, Verzweiflung und Ungewissheit. Kann sie ihm entkommen? Sie ist hin und weggerissen zwischen Hass und Liebe.
Der Schauplatz wir so im Detail beschrieben, dass man die Wildnis Kanadas sp�rt und erlebt.

In his life, Zola was the most important exemplar of the literary school of naturalism and a major figure in the political liberalization of France. More than half of Zola's novels were part of this set of 20 collectively known as Les Rougon-Macquart. Unlike Honore de Balzac, who compiled his works into La Comedie Humaine midway through, Zola mapped out a complete layout of his series. Set in France's Second Empire, the series traces the "environmental" influences of violence, alcohol and prostitution which became more prevalent during the second wave of the Industrial Revolution. The series examines two branches of a family: the respectable Rougons and the disreputable Macquarts for five generations. Zola explained, "I want to portray, at the outset of a century of liberty and truth, a family that cannot restrain itself in its rush to possess all the good things that progress is making available and is derailed by its own momentum, the fatal convulsions that accompany the birth of a new world."�

About the Author
?mile Zola was a French writer who is recognized as an exemplar of literary naturalism and for his contributions to the development of theatrical naturalism. Zola s best-known literary works include the twenty-volume Les Rougon-Macquart, an epic work that examined the influences of violence, alcohol and prostitution on French society through the experiences of two families, the Rougons and the Macquarts. Other remarkable works by Zola include Contes ? Ninon, Les Myst?res de Marseille, and Th?r?se Raquin.

In addition to his literary contributions, Zola played a key role in the Dreyfus Affair of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. His newspaper article J Accuse accused the highest levels of the French military and government of obstruction of justice and anti-semitism, for which he was convicted of libel in 1898. After a brief period of exile in England, Zola returned to France where he died in 1902. ?mile Zola is buried in the Panth?on alongside other esteemed literary figures Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas.

This is a great book about the life around Les Halles in 19th century Paris. It looks like there is no other translation than this one by Ernest Vizetelly from over 100 years ago (correct me if I am wrong). Therefore, when another reviewer below writes "but there are several mistakes in translation" and "there is an entire section in which the translator removed a description of Zola's, because he thinks the English audience wouldn't be interested", then this is certainly correct, but as long as nobody translates this book again, we will have to live with this. And the reader should not forget that E. Vizetelly was Zola's "official" translator, his translations were the only ones authorized by Zola, they knew each other personally very well and helped each other during hard times, and some of the old-worldish British 19th century linguistic charme that Vizetelly used for this translation (and his other Rougon-Macquart translations) cannot be reproduced by any modern, 21st century translator. His Zola translations are classics, with all their faults!

Great Book with Bad Translation/Print

I am unsure if this book is available in English trans from someone other than Ed Vit. and Mondial book publishers, but there are several mistakes in translation that are more oversights and bad editing than any real translational problem between English/French. As well, there is an entire section in which the translator removed a description of Zola's, because he thinks the English audience wouldn't be interested. Incase he's reading this, I was interested. Zola is an excellent observer, that's part of the charm of his writing, his fabulous descriptions that allow the reader to nearly take part in an event for which they were not present, the descriptions are so detailed and interesting. To have instead an astrisk by Ed telling me at the bottom of the page that my sentiments couldn't take the brutal description...if there isn't a new translation, there needs to be one and a better edited version too!

That said, of course, even shoddy trans and editing mistakes can't ruin Zola. I am half way through and just like all others this novel immediately presents great characters that make you curious for more and keep you hooked until the end!!

Great investigation

I was very disappointed to read a previous one star review judging the book for having too much content... this is an excellent book if you expect to learn something about the spirit of the times and how it influenced design thinking. If you want to know where architecture, art, design, and counterculture overlap and how it happened, this is the book for you. It gave me a lot of clarity on why pneumatics got so darn popular, among many other topics! I loved the design of the book as well especially with the section breaks using uniquely textured paper. Overall intellectually exciting, visual pleasing, and insightful volume!

Might work well as a doorstop

This catalog was a disappointment. Entirely too heavy. Too much text. Too few photos. I was hoping for something more visually appealing. If you are a theory head, you may love this catalog but, as an artist, I like to look at pictures with the text as sidebar. I am deeply interested in this topic and was drawn in by the cover which is great. I also have to admit that I am a lover of beautiful books. For me, the design of the book got in the way. It was all printed on a flat industrial paper which could have worked if the designer hadn't been trying so hard to make it feel like it hadn't been designed . I understand the choice of paper. I am sure that the posters and flyers of the day influenced it along with a desire for the publication not to feel too precious since the topic didn't lend itself to an overly sumptuous cocktail table kind of book. Maybe if the pictures that were in it were set off somehow? Maybe a light matte gloss on them to set them apart? It is entirely possible that the design was meant to echo the chaotic and creative feel of the times. In that way I get it but that feel can be conveyed without throwing visual literacy out the window. I recently picked up the Black Mtn Catalog for the ICA Boston show and it was perfect. I only mention this because the topics although not the same do have some similarities.... they both describe times of great creative upheaval. It is entirely possible that I am too long in the tooth to appreciate a book like this but I was so excited to get it and couldn't find my way into it. It immediately went back the way it came.

Not worth it!

I was really looking forward to reading this book. What I expected was an honest account of the nuances, hurdles and success of living without spending, along with the emotions, insights etc that went along with it. What I got was a very short book with some superficial summary of some things the author did for fun, and the rest was some half hearted financial advice.

If I had wanted to buy a book on investment/stock options for dummies, and a summary of available savings accounts offered, I would have picked up a pamphlet at my bank.

This book doesn't really know what it wants to be. Don't get too excited about it!

Although I enjoyed the book - it would have been a bit more helpful to understand the expenses in USD instead of British Pounds. Otherwise it was a good read with helpful information.
