About the Author
Sidney Lanier (1842-1881) was born in Macon, Georgia. After serving in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, he held a variety of jobs and traveled widely throughout the northern and southern states. In addition to earning success as a poet, Lanier received praise as a professional flutist with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra in Baltimore before he died of tuberculosis in 1881.

A true timeless classic!

My father first began reading to me from this book when I was just a wee lad. The stories of honor, courage and chivalry, as well as the "forsooth" writing style en-thralled me in the magical mystery surrounding Arthur and his knights. I believe that the stories read to me as a child went on to shape me into the person I am today. I encourage all parents to by this book as bedtime reading for their children. Turn down the lights, and let the past come alive! A wonderfully romantic tale for the young at heart as well!

It's a pleasure to see the work of the patriach of an American painters family, N. C. Wyeth. This juvenile version of the Arthur myth is a good and classic introduction into Celtic lore later transformed into chivalry, knights, castles, and mystery. The art makes it worth reading and enjoying by an older audience. Bill Rowe

A very inspirational book focused on the "inner game" of writing.

Very inspirational.

This book was mostly written for novelists, but I found it to be extremely helpful to me as a freelance copywriter.

I've consumed a lot of content in the past related to marketing as a freelance writer: Peter Bowerman's Kindle Ebook, "The Well-Fed Writer" or Ed Gandia's podcasts, "The High-Income Business Writing Podcast" and "The Smarter Freelancing Podcast", for example. These are great resources for marketing strategies. However, I've found that none of these resources really gave me what I was looking for in terms of actual steps that I could take to start making a full-time income as a freelancer immediately.

Honoree Corder attacks the problem from a different angle. Instead of giving you marketing strategies, she focuses more upon the "inner game" of successful freelancing; the philosophical beliefs that you must have to be successful. This is important because I suspect that what really makes most successful freelancers achieve abundance is that they sit in front of their computer every day and write.

And why do they do this? It's because they believe that they will make lots of money if they do. And why do they believe this? No one knows. Once a person becomes successful, the idea that "if I write, I will make more and more money" becomes self-reinforcing. They keep writing, so they keep making money, and then the money convinces them to write more. But if we're not making much money off of our writing, how do we convince ourselves that we will? How do successful freelancers ever motivate themselves to write in the first place?

In my own life, I've found it very difficult to pass up non-writing jobs that don't pay very well, even though I know that these jobs will take time away from my writing and only prolong the process of building a successful business. So I understand exactly what Corder is talking about. I suspect that many writers are unsuccessful for exactly this reason, not because they just don't know enough about marketing, but because they are just not motivated to do the excruciatingly difficult work of writing whatever it is they want to write.

In order to solve this problem, Corder teaches various tricks that a writer can employ to program his or her mind to produce motivation. She also provides arguments as to why the prevalent idea that "you can't make money off of writing" is just a very powerful illusion.

It's all in your head. So stop worrying about it and start writing.

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

I love this book

I love this book. Honoree presents a ton of actionable information to help writers shed the starving artist mentality and make a shift toward inviting true abundance into their lives. This book helps you create a prosperity mindset, as well as to build the action plans to take you from where you are to where you want to be with your writing. This isn't about craft or marketing or publishing. It's about changing yourself so that you will attract and find the writing career you most want. I'm so glad she wrote this book.

Perfect for all writers who want to turn their passion into a career

This is a fantastic book. Writers are so often stuck in 'starving artist' mode, and this book offers ways to transcend that mindset so that success isn't just something that happens to other people. It helps you focus on what you need to become successful and gives you steps to getting there. It's not magic, but by reframing how you see writing and your career, you can get closer to your goals. After I read it, I found my own writing career starting to move forward. It wasn't overnight success by any means, and I'm still working towards my own goals, but I have a better idea for what I want to accomplish and I now believe it's actually possible to get there.

This book moves much more quickly yet highlights more of the fine details which are critical to passing the exam

Just passed ICND1 today (second try). Barely missed the mark the first time with only the Odom book. I feel, as many others have stated already, that it's necessary to use the two. Wendell Odom's book guides you very carefully thru the material and ENSURES that you have a very solid grasp of the necessary concepts. This book moves much more quickly yet highlights more of the fine details which are critical to passing the exam. I'd describe this book as sort of like an "on-the-job" manual. It's what you'd want in your desk drawer if you need to know what to do at a moment's notice. The Odom book is more like a course textbook; you WILL be prepared for the test, you WILL know how to configure a router and how to subnet. However, it's those fine details like knowing exactly what information one show command will display vs. another that can determine pass/fail. Overall. the most important thing, in my opinion, is to study using materials from various sources as every writer/instructor will teach certain things that another will not. I feel I would have failed the first time anyway using only this book.

No Network Sim

I have read on forums that this book is great to have for passing ICND1 exam. One problem. When I purchased this book there are 2 mentions at the begining about getting a network simluator from the authors website or sybex. I looked both and emailed sybex and found out they(Both) removed the network simulator. So now I am to find a supplement or look for another product. Just a heads up I found out today 2/2/17

easy language, easy to understand, cover 95% of the topic. I passed the exam.
test bank is so slow to load questions. so easy questions in the test bank. just few question in the test bank. no labs to be downloaded and work around it.
overall rating 4 stars. I loved it but I hope it covers more of the topics like NTP that wasn't covered so well. and troubleshooting serial links.

Laughed so hard, I cried

I purchased this book because my school is currently going through the madness of state exams. I thought it would be a nice book to share with the faculty to relieve some of their test-associated stress. I am sure they will enjoy it because there were many "laugh out loud" moments. One example from the book had me in tears as I tried to read it to a family member (mostly because I couldn't get through it without bursting into laughter).

I would recommend reading this book in small doses. A page or two, here and there, to lighten your mood. Otherwise it does get a bit repetitious.

The book also would make one think about test question creation. Some of the questions are so poorly worded the snarky student answer is almost expected.

I would highly recommend this book to any teacher.

Construct A Banana Car...

"F in Exams" is a small collection of bizarre and wholly incorrect answers to scholastic test questions. Richard Benson has collected these and broken them down into various categories such as physics, math, chemistry, and psychology. The book takes less than half an hour to read cover to cover, but produces quite a few snickers along the way. Some of my favorite questions and answers include:

What instrument do you use to measure temperature? A trombone.

Name an environmental side effect of burning fossil fuels. Fire.

Explain the word "genome." It is an abbreviation of the two words: Gender and Gnome.

Name the wife of Orpheus, whom he attempted to save from the underworld. Mrs. Orpheus.

Who was Solomon? He was a very popular man with 700 wives and 300 porcupines.

What was the main industry in Persia? Cats.

Claire used good body language at a job interview. Can you think of three examples of good body language that Claire may have used?
1. Pole dancing
2. The Moonwalk
3. The Bolero

Finally my favorite question is found in the math section where the teacher had written "Construct a rectangle with sides Y and ends Z." This not being to the taste of the student, he (or she) scratched out all but the first two words of the question and rewrote it to read: "Construct a banana car." What followed was a very interesting drawing of a banana car and the line "I want to retake this test." I'll bet.

The questions and answers in the book vary in humorous content, and there are many examples circulating on the Internet that I consider to be at least as good as most of these. Still, for anyone who has ever been dumbfounded by a test question and decided to give a ludicrous answer, or especially for teachers who have seen more ridiculous answers than they can count, this book is worth a quick read.

Remember that Leno segment, where he quizzed people in public places - usually on some history or geography trivia? And how it was at once amusing and embarrassing to watch them fail miserably at the most basic of questions? Well, turns out those people, in their formative years, were the students featured in this book. And they were all very funny then.

This book is a gem, or rather a collection of gems. I recommend not reading it in one sitting, but flipping to a random page or two and getting your laughs. Guaranteed to elevate the crabbiest of moods, this book is a coffee-table essential, and can really get a dinner party going.

The banana car has definitely come to represent this book, but I assure you that the book is replete with even funnier examples.

IF YOU INTO THE MYSTICAL TYPES OF STORY I THINK YOU WILL ENJOY THIS.. TALK ABOUT YOUR PAM GREER. THIS YOUNG GIRL WAS BAD.. SHE KICK BUTTS ALL THROUGH THIS STORY AND THEN SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH THE KING. TRUST WHEN I SAY IT WASN'T EASY. WHEN I SAY SHE DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING I MEAN JUST THAT.
