Hot men in Tights!!!

After Cascades emotional and fantastic ending, Gabi and Lia find themselves racing back to 14th-Century Italy. For Gabi she is racing back to her true love, for Lia she races back to save her family and an unspoken romance that has risen in her own heart. Coming back this time however will have its consequences, getting back home will be almost impossible and perhaps out of the question now that a life hangs in the balance.

Gabi knows her family will be making a huge sacrifice to stay in ancient Italy but also knows she tied to Marcello in a way that cant be broken, that is until events change the political atmosphere surrounding Marcello and the nation of Sienna. With a shocking wrench thrown into the plotting, Gabi's life may take a completely new direction than she ever imagined. While those who love her fight back and Gabi risks everything, the torrent that threatens to devour them all rears it ugly head.

My favorite of three, Torrent was a fast rollercoaster of emotion, shocking plot twists and a gorgeous well-done end. I cant review any of the stuff that made Torrent what it was due to not spoiling it for readers, is all I can say is that things happened that I wanted to happen and things happened that shocked me. Lisa threw in some added drama for Gabi that she needed in order to truly see what being with Marcello would mean, she also by the end grew Gabi into a fully developed character that shreds the last lingering thoughts of a 21st century teenager yet still maintains her spunk, bravery and courage.

Now that Ive finally docked the boat after being on a river that turns, spins, crashes, rips you under with its current and then gently calms you with its tranquility, I must say reading the River of Time series has been a marvelous adventure. I love these novels more than cake and that's saying a lot!! Lisa Bergren with her Jedi Master skills at romance, history that doesn't put me to sleep and action that jumps off the pages had me at page one in Waterfall, made me fall in love in Cascade and stole my heart with Torrent. This is a series that will stick with you long after you finish......

Amazing Book, Amazing Series!

I cannot tell you how excited I was to receive my ARC copy of Torrent in the mail. It was Christmas in August. I proudly showed it to my whole family and then HID it from my daughter. She came in later and asked where it was and I told her that I hid it because I was going to read it first. (You know she didn't have to wait too long because I finished it the next day.)

This is the third book in the River of Time series. I have loved these books since the first time I laid eyes on them. If you haven't read them yet, you really should. I found so many things to love all the way through.

Love, loyalty, time travel, action, knights in shining armor and a good history lesson... You just can't ask for more.

This third book couldn't come fast enough for me. I was hoping for all kinds of resolution and good things. I was not disappointed at all. It felt so good to end the journey with Gabi and crew. Happily. :) The book is well written and the scenes are etched in my mind.

I sure wouldn't mind reading another series starring Lia and Luca. I sure think there is more of that story to tell! Well, it could be that while I am utterly satisfied with the ending of Torrent, I still just want more.

I really don't want to give away the book and the twists so I'm just going to have to tell you to pick up these books, starting with Waterfall and Cascade and ending with Torrent. They are one of my favorite series. I will be reading these books again. I'm also happy to say that these books are clean. I can recommend these books to all my friends and even my daughter's friends. To me, that is huge.

My most sincere thanks to Lisa Bergren for writing such great books and letting me read them. Torrent comes out September 1st! I love, love, love the River of Time Series!

Torrent is AMAZING!

The River of Time is one of my favourite series so I was super excited to get my hands on an early copy of the final installment Torrent. And what an incredible read! It was everything I hope for and so much more.

Again Lisa Tawn Bergren has written another exciting and suspense filled plot. There are so many pulse pounding moments as Gabi and her love ones are never far from danger. But it isn't just action and adventure but also a insightful and meaningful story. It reminds you to appreciate every moment you have.

Gosh, I adore these characters. They are the type you admire and who inspire you to be a better person. It is always hard to pick a favourite out of this outstanding bunch but it would have to be Gabi with her strength, courage and kindness. She really has grown and mature so much in the series. Then you have Marcello and he is much more than just an Italian hottie. He is smart, loyal, brave and has such a beautiful and caring soul. In this installment Gabi's family plays such a large part of the story. It is great to read a book with such strong and positive family presence.

Now, talk about swoon. Torrent had plenty of heart melting moments. And I was surprised as another character tempted my heart away from Marcello (which I thought impossible). I wish I could say more but I don't want to spoil the book for you. I am hoping (and begging) that Lisa Tawn Bergren will decide to write this character a spin off series because I am in love again!

Overall, Torrent was amazing. My favourite out of the three and a perfect end to an unforgettable series. If you like stories full of adventure and romance then this is a must read.

Wonderful, moving, relective

Although missing all the illustrations of the original work, this is a breathtaking book. It reads easily and takes you on a journey around the world as it is beheld by a most intelligent and good man. The conclusion was unexpected and was filled with many passive observations about life on earth, geology, our mortality and possibly our living souls too. A must read.

The Thinking Man's Adventure Tale

The book is a first-rate account of Darwin's fascinating voyage around the world in the Beagle in the 1830s. I always thought he stayed aboard most of the time as the ship circumnavigated the world; I never realized how much time he spent ashore, engaging in bold adventures in South America and other places. It is fascinating to realize the breadth and depth of his curiosity as he turns his mind to virtually everything he sees. At least in those years he was not the retired country parson he is so often thought to have been.

Where are the illustrations? The kindle version doesn't come with them. I didn't even bother to read it after I couldn't see what was being described. I'm going to check it out of the library instead.

About the Author
A Yi is a Chinese writer living in Beijing. He is the author of two collections of short stories and has published fiction in Granta and the Guardian. In 2010 he was shortlisted for the People’s Literature Top 20 Literary Giants of the Future.

excellent and perceptive work

The book's flap correctly points out some similarities with Kafka, Camus, and Dostoeyvsky; readers of these authors will be able to recognize the similarities. The translation does seem to be a bit awkward in places, but I cannot be sure of this, since I cannot read the book in the original language. The story is tight, and puzzling in parts. And the author creates many interesting metaphors. The story expresses a deeply and astutely perceived philosophy. The end explains what you did not understand earlier . . . "and when all that will be left is dancing dust."

Predicable, but still kept my interest to the end ...

Predicable, but still kept my interest to the end. Chapters moved rapidly with plenty of similes and for me there were too many. Made be believe that their justice system was what could be bought by the Yang. The final chapter analysis of the reason for committing his crime was hard to accept for he laid it all of society. Still I was OK with it.

imperfect editing

The young protagonist kills his classmate. The murder has no apparent motive but when the story reaches its ending the reason for the killing becomes clear. The story begins with a crime and then a hunt by the police for the killer; the tension and suspense are not immense but sufficiently tight to captivate the reader. The end of the tale, which is the best part of the book, takes on a deep philosophical and sociological examination of life and death. The protagonist’s senseless and wanton killing of Kong Jie is intended to demonstrate the meaninglessness of life. He emphasises this point by the careless disregard for his own life. Kong Jie is dead, so what? He is going to be executed, so what? The ultimate point, is, what about the rest of us? What about life itself? In the context of the overall picture of the vast and timeless universe, what is life? What is life when even the most magnificent stars also burn themselves out? It is only a matter of time. That is also the same point Camus was making in his version of a similar theme in ‘The Stranger’.

This English translation conveys the story and meaning well but there are pockets in which the translator seemed to have taken the Chinese text literally rendering the translation a little awkward. For example, it is not clear whether the line 'She was probably out of battery or spending time with her friends' was spoken by the victim's mother or the killer. The phrase 'out of battery' might have been a reference to Kong Jie’s cell-phone but the sentence as produced is too colloquial (when the context does not suggest that it was a colloquial statement). At various other places, the use of the word 'they' is not clear who it was meant to refer to.

There is also a misspelling of 'my butt' as 'by butt'. "Ma paid her back a long [time] ago' had the word 'time' missing. These are faults of the editorial team rather than the author or translator and mar what would have been a perfectly enchanting book.

About the Author
Jeff Hardin is Professor and Chair of the Zoology Department at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. He is also Faculty Director of the Biology Core Curriculum, a four-semester honors biology sequence for undergraduates at Wisconsin known for its teaching innovations. Jeff’s research interests center on how cells migrate and adhere to one another to change the shape of animal embryos. Jeff’s teaching is enhanced by his extensive use of digital microscopy and his Web-based teaching materials, which are used on many campuses in the United States and other countries. As part of his interest in teaching biology, Jeff has received several awards, including a Lily Teaching Fellowship, a National Science Foundation Young Investigator Award, and a Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award.

Gregory Bertoni has been active in teaching, research, and scientific writing for over 30 years. He earned a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin—Madison with Wayne Becker, where his research investigated the effects of light quality and carbon dioxide concentration on photorespiratory gene expression. His teaching experiences include introductory and graduate-level biochemistry, sophomore cell biology, and plant physiology. At Madison, he and Wayne helped to develop a new course entitled “Ways of Knowing” designed to introduce entering freshmen to the learning process itself. His published research includes studies in bacterial pathogenesis, plant-microbe interactions, and plant gene expression. Currently, Gregory is a Science Editor for The Plant Cell, a leading international research journal in plant cell and molecular biology, for which he assists authors in preparing manuscripts and files for publication. His duties include communicating with authors around the world to ensure that published papers are accurate and accessible to both general and expert readers. In addition, he has written numerous one-page summaries for the journal front matter to highlight key research articles. For the past 12 years, Gregory has been teaching biology, chemistry, and microbiology part-time at the community college level, mostly for nursing training, and is currently at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland, Maine. He is also a freelance scientific writer who contributes to text- and web-based projects in biology, physics, and microbiology. His hobbies include hiking, gardening, and growing certified organic seedlings for A Good Start, a small business founded by him and his wife Marianne Potter in 2003.

A must have to further your gound work.

Easy to follow, step by step lessons. Shows trained and untrained horse examples and then solving problems that may occur. Training is in detail leaving nothing to wonder about. Very important ground work lessons. We bought series 3 too and were glad we did.

Best Book Ever For Gaining Respect From Your Horse

I am so glad I chose Clinton Anderson's methods to train my horse. Not only is she the most respectful horse on the ranch, I am constantly getting compliments and offers on her and requests to work on other horses. This book is easy to follow and has great pictures for reference. Just after a few lessons, you will start seeing a huge difference. By the time you have applied all that's in this training book, your horse will be more respectful and your bond will be stronger.
